Upon completion of the first statewide precipitation study several factors or variables need to be addressed for the continuation of this study or future studies. It is recommended that some minor adjustments be made to the sampling procedure and delivery method. First, a photo should be taken at each sample location to document the presence or lack of canopy cover and the distance away from buildings, driveways, or busy roads. All of this information can be used to explain variation between bags or even between locations. Second, during the study samples were frozen and delivered to our laboratory via by hand or mail. During this sample delivery it is possible that cross contamination may have occurred. Once the potential problem was identified, each sample bag was delivered in their own individual, laboratory supplied, sample container. It is important to stress the importance of this issue to the participants involved in future studies. Also, completed data sheets will be required to ensure the most accurate data being collected.
